Eterna has a very important place in the history of watchmaking. It was established in 1856 when Dr. Joseph Girard and Urs Schild jumped on the advent of Swiss watch industry. The Eterna factory produced movements for other watch brands, and in 1866, evolved into producing automated machines. A little known fact was that Eterna introduced the use of ball bearings solution that is still used today on automatic movements and ETA, the largest Swiss manufacturer of movements, was founded by Eterna. However, in relation to this piece we have in our gallery, Eterna introduced an innovative, special wrist watch casing with moving safety band lugs in 1904. It was invented for use by the military and patent was filed. This safety band lugs would lead to fancy, articulated lugs we see on this piece of Chronograph.
