In 1948, the Seamaster made its debut as part of the brand’s 100th anniversary celebration. The Seamaster was not officially a dive watch until 1957, when Omega introduced the Seamaster alongside the Speedmaster and Railmaster, better known as the ‘Master’ Trilogy. The Trilogy would go on to become one of the most recognized and celebrated name in the watch fraternity, most notably the Seamaster, then with the Speedmaster. Almost like a rebrand, or perhaps an independent franchise on its own, the Speedmaster famously became the ‘Moonwatch’ after Apollo 11 Astronauts wore it to space and set foot on the moon in 1969. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that the Moonwatch did saved Omega from the Quartz Crisis in the 70s.

Prior to the birth of the Speedmaster, we must know that much of the package that went to space were the result of extensive developments found in the Cosmics, Chronographs and Seamasters that came before 1957. In 1952, the Seamaster Ref. 2627, Cal. 28.10 was introduced as the first Omega with a date window. The Seamaster Reference 2757 would be the nearest offspring to this significant development in Omega’s timeline.
