RM72-01 Ti Lifestyle Flyback Chronograph Automatic Wristwatch in Titanium
Richard Mille RM72-01 Ti Lifestyle Flyback Chronograph Automatic Wristwatch in Titanium from 2021
The Richard Mille RM 72-01 watch combines tradition and modernity, presenting a singular yet timeless design that showcases the brand's accumulated know-how over the last 20 years. At the heart of this timepiece lies the in-house Calibre CRMC1, a skeletonized movement with automatic bidirectional winding. This movement powers various functions, including hours, minutes, small seconds, date, flyback chronograph, function indicator, and stop seconds. With an impressive power reserve of approximately 50 hours (± 10%), the watch ensures reliable timekeeping and functionality.
The baseplate and bridges of the RM 72-01 are crafted in grade 5 titanium, a biocompatible and highly corrosion-resistant alloy known for its rigidity. The use of micro-blasted grade 5 titanium, combined with a grey electroplasma treatment, enhances the assembly's overall rigidity and provides impeccably even surfaces. Extensive validation tests have been conducted to optimize the resistance capacities of the skeletonized baseplate and bridges, ensuring their durability and performance.
One of the notable features of this watch is the patented flyback chronograph mechanism, developed by Richard Mille. This mechanism splits the torque generated across the chronograph's various counters, resulting in exceptional performance. The flyback chronograph draws power directly from the barrel and employs a coupling system consisting of two oscillating pinions mounted on rockers. These pinions control the start, stop, flyback, and reset functions, delivering enhanced energy and precise timekeeping.
The RM 72-01 also incorporates a date display, which appears in a vertical aperture at 7 o'clock, providing convenient and quick access to the date information. A function indicator, reminiscent of a car's gearbox, allows users to identify the winding, neutral, and handsetting positions by the position of the crown. This feature adds both practicality and a unique touch to the watch's design.
The watch's balance wheel is a free-sprung balance with variable inertia, made of CuBe material and featuring four arms and four setting weights. This innovative design ensures greater reliability and accuracy, even when subjected to shocks or during assembly and disassembly. The balance spring, known as AK3, further enhances the watch's precision and performance. The shock protection system, INCABLOC 908.22.211.100, offers additional durability and robustness.
In terms of its construction, the Richard Mille RM 72-01 watch exemplifies a holistic approach to design and execution. Rigorous specifications are followed throughout, including the absence of a casing ring and the use of chassis mounting rubbers (ISO SW) fixed by titanium screws to mount the movement. This uncompromising attention to detail underscores the brand's commitment to high quality and craftsmanship.
